NDRA Drag Race Summary – Budds Creek, MD May 19 -20 2007

Atco Finals at MIR

Pro Stock:
Norris Prayoonto and Richie Gibson were the first to line up in our make-up finals. Richie had the better 60’ time, but Norris picked up a lot of speed on the big end taking the win with a 9.606 @ 145.08 mph. That surpassed his current speed record by 3 mph. He will have a chance to back that up on Sunday.

Pro 4 Cylinder:
Stephanie Eggum and James Farrer squared off in their final. Stephanie was the #1 qualifying at Atco, and again at MIR. Stephanie got the jump off the line and never looked back. She wins the race and set a new NDRA record with a 7.997 @ 182.95 mph.

Pro Street Tire:
Nate Pritchett and Phil Clemmons were paired in the finals. Phil was the #1 qualifier at Atco. Nate kept ahead of Phil until the 330’. After that Phil picked up the speed, and won the race with a 8.854 @ 173.14

Pro Outlaw FWD:
Gary Gardella vs. Jason Hunt. Gary had Jason by .2 at the 60’, but Jason refuses to let Gary stay ahead. Jason wins the race running a 7.622 @ 200.11 mph! He has the chance to set another NDRA record.

Pro Outlaw RWD:
Dan Millen and Tom Kasper had the crowd on their feet with a close race. They were dead even at the 60’ and only a ½ second apart at the 1/8th. Dan managed to stay ahead and win the race with a 7.050 @ 212.49 mph, ahead of Kasper by only .6467 sec.

Pro:
Kevin McCurdy was paired up against George Landis. George ran a 6.36 in Atco, and Kevin knew he had to get ahead. George broke the tires lose and lifted, Kevin on the other hand kept the hammer down and won with a 6.496 @ 217.98 mph.

Round 1 Qualifying

Pro Stock:
Things started out great for point’s leader Norris Prayoonto. He comes off the trailer with a 9.759 @ 138.94. Austin Johnson III had his best pass of qualifying in round 1 with an 11.476 @107.23.

Pro 4-Cylinder:
A total of 7 drivers made up the Pro 4-Cylinder class this weekend. James Farrer laid down a terrific pass with an 8.531 @ 163.59 to top the pole. That is a little over a tenth from the ET record. Stephanie Eggum didn’t have a great round as she struggled with her pass.

Pro Street Tire:
Things started out and stayed close in the first round. Chris Anderson earned his spot on the top of the pole with an 8.601 @ 167.68. Phil Clemmons, Todd Armandus, and Nate Pritchett made up the top 4, with a ½ second of separating them.

Pro Outlaw FWD:
Gary Gardella came out to show the Maryland crowd what his new car will do. He laid down a 7.571 @ 173.72 for the crowd. Jason Hunt only ran 8.259, but he did it at 193.82 mph.

Pro Outlaw RWD:
Carl Steven Jr. looked great in round 1 topping the pole with a 7.760 even after pedaling it down the track and lifting at the 1000 ft. Dan Millen had an exciting run as he struggled getting the car to hook up. Tom Kasper had a lot of tire shake, and hardly any traction, but showed the fans how well he could drive pulling a 7.855 @ 185.38.

Pro:
George Landis and Kevin McCurdy both had some tire shake that kept them from getting down the track. Bill Devine slid around the track a little and got out of it after the 1/8th

Pro Extreme:
Don Nase Jr. had a problem with the line lock, and had to back away from the starting line.

Round 2 Qualifying

Pro Stock:
Norris started off strong on his second pass, but lifted half way down the track. Teammate Saul Salceda makes a strong pass of 9.885 at 119.87 to secure the #2 qualifying spot.
Pro 4-Cylinder:
James Farrer and Mike Gage spin the tires through 1st gear, and Dee Bryant continues to chase some bugs in his car. Stephanie Eggum gets her ride together and blisters down the track with an 8.067 @ 183.89 to put herself into the top qualifier spot

Pro Street Tire:
Things slowed down for the cars on this class after Yamil Widy broke an axle in his Supra and brushed the wall.

Pro Outlaw FWD:
Jason Hunt laid down a 198.70 mph pass, and Gary Gardella goes 194.69 mph. Gary ended getting to the finish line with the better ET, running a 7.576 only .005 off his first qualifying pass.

Pro Outlaw RWD:
Terris Hicks found stepped it up a notch running a 7.744 @ 178.68. Carl Stevens Jr. has a problem at the starting line and jumps through the light before the tree was activate. Dan Millen slides all over the track, and stays in it crossing the line with a 7.031 @ 216.69. If he backs up the MPH it will be a new NDRA record. Tom Kasper moved to the #2 spot behind Millen. Luis Carujo made his appearance, but suffered some boost problem and coasted down the track with a 12.484 @ 86.26 mph.

Pro:
George Landis had an exciting ride as his car slide side to side. He lifted out of it and coasted to the end with a 14.748. Bill Devine had some problems on the line as the car choked on the launch giving him a 13.206. Kevin McCurdy showed everyone why he is the reigning champ when he blistered a 6.533 @ 217.70.

Round 3 Qualifying

Pro Stock:
Austin Johnson II and Dan Driskill had a couple of 12 second passes as the rest of this fields lined up for the make-up finals from Atco, NJ.

Pro 4-Cylinder:
Mike Blackwell had a drive line problem from the start as he keeps pulling to the left.

Pro Street Tire:
Chris Anderson pushed his way down the track, but not better his time.

Pro Outlaw RWD:
Terris Hicks had a good run in round 3 however; Carl Steven Jr. has one of his best career runs with a 7.075 @ 201.91 mph.
Pro:
Bill Devine pick up his tune-up, and over powered the track as he struggled to keep the tires to the ground.

Eliminations Round 1

Pro Stock:
Norris Prayoonto and Saul Salceda both had bye runs in round 1. Austin Johnson III and Dan Driskill paired up for their face off. Austin ran strong taking the win over Dan with an 11.344 @ 116.83 mph to Dan’s 1.990 @ 116.05 mph. Only .002 separated the drivers’ reaction times.

 

Pro 4-Cylinder:
James Farrer had a great pass and took the win over Dee Bryant with an 8.607 @ 166.27. Dee couldn't get the tires to stick. Michael Blackwell Jr. took out Chad Colfer with his best pass of the weekend a 10.087 @ 152.21 mph. Stephanie Eggum had the bye run in round one. She saved some parts as she just broke the beams and backed out.

Pro Street Tire:
Phil Clemmons gets a bye run as he was slotted to go against Yamil Widy who was unable to return due to his incident on Saturday. Nate Pritchett and Todd Amandus lined up for their pass. Todd started out ahead, but then smokes the tires at the 1/8th. Nate pulled ahead to take the win with a 9.527 @ 148.12 mph.

Pro Outlaw FWD:
A pair of bye runs for Gary Gardella and Jason Hunt. That did not stop Jason as he backs up his 200.11mph pass with a 7.79 @ 198.06, making the 200.11 mph the new NDRA record.

Pro Outlaw RWD:
Carl Stevens Jr. get a bye run as Luis Carujo was unable to make the call. That did not slow him down as he runs a 7.077 @ 201.58 mph. That is .002 off his best qualifying time. Terris Hicks takes the win over Tom Kasper as the auto start times him out. And Dan Millen shook the tires on his bye run, and still ran a 7.162.


Eliminations Round 2

Pro Stock:
Norris Prayoonto dominated over Austin Johnson III and back up an NDRA record running a 9.598 at 144.12 mph. Richie Gibson and Saul Salceda pair up at the line. Saul red lights and Richie takes the win.

Pro 4 Cylinder:
James Farrer runs strong on his bye run as Michael Blackwell Jr. broke in the staging lanes and was unable to make a pass. Jimmy Jones watched the taillights of Stephanie go down the track as she pulled of another great pass with an 8.23 @178 mph.

Pro Street Tire:
Chris Anderson lined up his Supra against the Chevy Camaro of Nate Pritchett. Nate had the better 60’, but Chris’s Supra picked it up at the big end to take the win with an 8.855 @ 171.49 to Nate’s 9.401 @ 149.43. Phil Clemmons gets the bye run and still pulls an 8.784 at 174.98.

Pro Outlaw RWD:
Terris Hick bogged on the line and let Dan Millen take the win with a 7.320 @ 206.80 mph. Carl Stevens Jr. almost didn’t make the line as his car would not start before the water box. He managed to get it started and cruised down the track easy on his bye run.
Pro:
George Landis and Bill Devine squared of in round 2. Bill got loose at eh 1/8th and got back in it. Just as he did, Landis got loose, and back off for a second. Landis ended up on top winning with a 6.733 @ 199.46 mph.

Elimination Finals

Pro Stock:
Norris Prayoonto takes on Richie Gibson again. Richie got the better reaction time, but Norris pulled ahead early to take the win with a 9.588 @ 143.98.

Pro 4-Cylinder:
Stephanie Eggum and James Farrer face off for the finals. James got the jump off the line, but Stephanie picked up great speed at the big end and wins with an 8.074 @181.32 mph.

Pro Street Tire:
Phil Clemmons and Chris Anderson line up together. Phil cuts a .095 light, and Chris cut a .262 light. Phil won the race with an 8.536 @ 176.81 to Chris’s 8.609 @ 171.21.

Pro Outlaw FWD:
Gary Gardella and Jason Hunt stayed neck and neck until the end with Jason coming out on top 7.548 @ 196.70 to Gardella’s 7.683 @ 195.45.

Pro Outlaw RWD:
Carl Stevens JR and Dan Millen lined up for the fast side by side Pro Outlaw RWD race we have ever had. Carl cut a .027 light and got ahead. Both drivers broke loose, and neither one of them lifted. Carl wins the race with a 7.123 @ 201.19 mph, to Dan’s 7.135 @ 215.10. Just over .010 sec. between the two times.

Pro:
Kevin McCurdy gets the win and the points as George Landis broke and was unable to make the call. Kevin ran a 6.596 @ 214.42 for the fans!!
